Online Sports Betting in Wisconsin?

Currently, retail sports betting is illegal in Wisconsin, with the Oneida Casino in Green Bay being the only place to offer it. However, neighboring states Illinois and Iowa have already legalized sports betting, which could push Wisconsin to follow suit. The expansion of retail sports betting is also planned in the state, with a new sportsbook set to open at the Potawatomi Casino Hotel in Milwaukee. There are concerns, however, about the potential increase in gambling addictions if online sports betting were to be legalized in the state.

Texas sports betting bills on Deck this Week

Three bills will be heard for the first time in the House of Representatives State Affairs Committee, with two intertwined bills seeking to legalize “destination resorts,” casino gaming, and sports betting, while the third bill seeks to only legalize online sports betting. If approved, the destination resort bill would allow for up to two destination resorts and casino gaming in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Area, two resorts in the Houston-Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area, one resort in the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area, one in the Corpus Christi metropolitan area, one in the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission metropolitan area, and one additional resort in an area to be determined at a later time. Texas losing out as residents are betting Elsewhere

The state of Texas is currently losing out on potential tax revenue as Texans are estimated to be betting billions of dollars illegally and in neighboring states, according to industry experts and academic estimates. However, lawmakers are considering bills that could lead to the legalization of mobile sports betting and resort-style casinos, with a proposed tax rate of 10%. Despite some lobbying efforts from casino and resort developer Las Vegas Sands Corp., Texas leaders have shown little interest in legalizing more gambling. Even if bills do pass, a statewide referendum in November would be required due to constitutional restrictions on gambling.
