March Madness Boosts Colorado Numbers

According to figures from the Colorado Department of Revenue, more than 99% of all sports betting in Colorado was done online in March, with a total handle of $494.4 million. Mobile sports betting has dominated in Colorado for the first quarter of 2023, accounting for more than 99% of bets placed each month. Professional basketball has been the most popular sport in the state this year, with ice hockey, tennis, and soccer following closely behind. Colorado sportsbooks held 9.3% in March, leading to the second-highest month of recorded revenue in state history at $45.9 million, and revenue increased 63% compared to March 2022. Minnesota Debates Legal Sports Betting

Minnesota is currently debating whether to legalize sports betting, as it is an outlier in the region with all neighboring states allowing gambling on sporting events. However, the issue that has bedeviled other states has come up: should tribal casinos be the only places through which bettors can wager on games? Democrats want sports betting only in the state’s 19 tribal casinos, citing the economic support that casinos provide the state’s 11 tribal sovereign nations, while Republicans argue that two metro area horse racing tracks, professional sports teams, and major sporting events should be allowed to offer sports wagering. Circa Sportsbook Receives License Approval For Illinois Launch

The Illinois Gaming Board has approved the license for Circa Sportsbook, which is now one step closer to launching as the eighth legal online sportsbook in Illinois. The sportsbook is tethered with The Temporary by American Place Casino, a Full House Resorts property in Waukegan. While Circa’s CEO, Derek Stevens, said the company is ready to launch both brick-and-mortar and online later this year, the casino has to be open for a period of time before a sportsbook can be introduced. Circa aims to offer a unique selling proposition targeting high rollers with a low-percentage hold and the ability to accept large bets.
