Maine Sports betting proposal passes committee vote
The proposal from Gov. Janet Mills to legalize sports betting has passed the committee vote and is headed for the full Legislature. The Committee passed the bill on Wednesday with a divided vote, with several members saying they could support the bill with additional changes.
The governors proposal would give tribes exclusive licenses for mobile sports betting. The plan from Mills is in response to a significant tribal sovereignty bill. Tribal leaders are in support of the governors proposal , but are also pushing for the Legislature to pass the broader sovereignty bill.
